The regular Little League season is coming to a close, and postseason tournaments will soon begin.
Scotts Valley Little League
AAA Division
Diamondbacks 6, Astros 4
Zac Yates struck out 10 batters in 4-1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks. Soren Burns was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Nick Endres and Matthew Wu both had two hits, and Jake Thornley, Jacob Vegher, Max Smith and Shane Burns all had a hit each. The Astros’ Zachary Del Mar went 2-for-2, and Bryce Gunderson, Mackinley Coffee, Justin Ifland and Alex Sterbenc had one hit each.
San Lorenzo Valley Little League
Majors Division
Braves 12, Giants 3
Jack Gentry hit a double in the third inning, his fifth home run of the year in the fourth and a double in the fifth as the Braves broke away from the Giants. After his double in the third, Gentry was knocked in by Cody Peterson’s double to right-center. Peterson later doubled again in the fifth. The Giants responded in the fifth and nearly batted around to score three runs. Matt Siordia ripped a single to score Mark Carling and Charlie Wiegel.
Giants 16, White Sox 5
By the end of the top of the first, the Giants already had 10 hits and 12 runs. Max Crandall had two base hits in the first inning. Matt Robustelli struck out six batters in his three innings of pitching. Elliot Brown was on base all five at-bats, and Crandall finished the game on the hill for the Giants. The White Sox scored in the first with three hits and two runs. Justin Rudrow doubled, Tommy Andersen singled and Manny Smith doubled.
Minors Division
Dodgers 21, Red Sox 9
Clay Brown had singles in the first and the fifth and scored both times. Ben Murphy was 3-for-3 with three runs. Owen Andrews walked and singled, scoring twice. In the fifth, Andrews walked and scored on Aidan Callahan’s double. The Red Sox stayed in the game early with extra bases from Trent Hopping (double) and Tyler Goedeck (triple). Goedeck had three hits in all and scored twice. Shane Kiyabu brought in two with a fifth-inning single.
AA Division
Postseason play has begun in AA, the only division with a postseason tournament.
Mets 6, A’s 5
Josh Purtscher rocked a walk-off single with one out and a full count to send in William Caddell with the winning run. The Mets had come back from down 5-2 in the open inning when Collin Manley led off with a single, followed by singles from Isaac Wallace-Menge, Xander Krikke, and Caddell. Nate Stevison and Connor Urbancic extended the rally with base hits. The A’s took the lead early on third-inning hits from Eli McMillin Hagan Warner, Joshua Forst and Aden Rich.
