Little league 2012

The Tournament of Champions and 7- and 8-year-old all stars tournament are in progress for local little league teams. Majors games are being played this week atHarveyWestParkinSanta Cruz, and minors games atAnnSoldoElementary SchoolinWatsonville.

Majors Tournament of Champions
 SLV Giants 6, Live Oak Giants 5
Max Crandall homered to right field and Kaleb Hedstrom and Blake Kuel each hit their first home runs of the year to lead the Giants.
Julian and Jacob Auldridge, along with Crandall, pitched. Vinnie Prograce caught in the nail-biter.
Santa Cruz National 9, SLV Giants 7
The Giants put up five runs in the first, including a triple by Tyler Goedeck, but the game got away from them. Zane Saunders pitched well in relief, but after the first, the team couldn’t muster much.

SLV Angels 10,Santa CruzNational 1
7-8 All Stars
Despite an inside-the park homer from Matthew Carney, SLV fell 21-12 to Capitola-Soquel on June 10. Josh Purtscher and Cooper Austin combined to go 5-for-5. The team played its second game on Wednesday, June 13 after press-time.

Scotts Valley 8, Capitola-Soquel 2
AA Division
Thunder 9, Mets 4
The Thunder won the AA championship behind great pitching by Adrie Ruf, Nicky Sutter and Cole Leonard. Gabe Spitzer, Braidan Lewis, Ruf and Leonard all went 3-for-3 in the win.
For the Mets, Matty Solis went 2-for-3, while Isaiah Fusari, Kiernan Gill and Joey Duncan combined to pitch a strong game.
