Local grandmother Super Bowl-bound

Scotts Valley resident Helen Hall heads to Dallas this weekend to watch her grandson, Korey Hall, play in Super Bowl XLV.
Korey Hall is a fullback and special-teams player for the Green Bay Packers who has frequented Scotts Valley from his youth.
“It’s so exciting,” said Helen Hall, 85. “I really am hopeful that the weather allows us to get there. The big storm in the Midwest is getting me nervous.”
As the ice storm of the decade hammers the center of the country, flights to Dallas are iffy at best. Thousands were canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.
Helen Hall will travel to Redding to meet up with her daughter and then fly out of Sacramento to Dallas for the big game.
Korey Hall, who hails from Glenns Ferry, Idaho, spent many summer months as a boy with his sister at their grandparents’ home in Scotts Valley. Then, as teenagers, they would take friends for week-long stays at the house overlooking Valley Gardens Golf Course.
He attended Boise State and was drafted in 2007 as a linebacker before being converted to tight end. He plays on special teams and as a blocking fullback and wears No. 35.
“This is a dream,” Helen Hall said. “My husband, Don, coached college football for years, and we never were really involved with the National Football League. He sat on a board with (Packers legendary coach) Vince Lombardi, so to be going to see the Packers in a Super Bowl is just tremendous.”
