Looking for way to get a day at the spa, without leaving home? Then Melissa Stone Santangelo, owner of Balance Studio Spa in Felton, has got you covered.
Her newly published book “Spa-Cipes: The Spa Cookbook” is packed with do-it-yourself instructions for everything you’d need to make your own natural spa treatments to pamper yourself at home.
The recipes include everything from organic wrinkle and eye treatments, to body treatments and salt scrubs, to a step-by-step plan for a 7-day juice cleanse.
“Everything is organic and holistic,” said Stone Santangelo. “I only use food, herbs, and oils in my spa treatments.”
The book, she said, was a year in the making. It began when she developed her juice cleanse regimen, and expanded from there until she had more than 200 pages worth of recipes.
“My whole thing is that I want to teach people to take care of themselves, to love themselves,” Stone Santangelo said.
Her book — the first of a planned four-book series — enters into detail not only recipes and techniques, but also cites her own life and experiences as to how each recipe or activity pertains to an overall feeling of self-confidence and balance.
Stone Santangelo has operated Balance Studio Spa, located at 912 Lakeside Drive in Felton, for 11 years.
To promote the book and its message, Stone Santangelo said that she is planning a series of “Spa-Cipes” workshops at her Felton studio.
The first 90-minute workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m., with two more scheduled in May.
Her book, priced at $24.95, is available online on Amazon.com, and can be found locally at New Leaf Community Markets in Felton and Boulder Creek, as well as at the White Raven in Felton, and Air and Fire in Boulder Creek.
