For the past 15 years, Kiwanis of Scotts Valley has presented an amazing array of musical talent at its annual Music at Skypark, a free community-wide outdoor concert series.

The tradition continues this year on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 1:30pm when classic rock and blues band, American Underdog, leads off the festival, followed by a cornucopia of old-school funk, progressive rock, blues and soul by Jive Machine.

Kiwanis has again partnered with Motocharities to kick off the festival as host of the second annual Classic Motorcycle Show. Close to 100 restored and polished beauties will be on display from 10am-2pm.

All motorcycles on display will be judged, and trophies will be awarded for each class and the best of show. Net proceeds will be donated to Kiwanis to support their community work.

In addition, Kiwanis and local businesses will offer food, wine, beer and other concessions for sale.

Rock ‘n blues is a great way to kick off a concert, so on Sunday, Sept. 29, Kiwanis will do it again, opening with The Shady Rest Band, followed by one of the best funk, Latin spice, reggae and classic rock bands of all time, none other than Extra Large.

Two things are amazing about Music at Skypark. First, the bands are all local Santa Cruz area talent, and second, all the profits from the festival will go to support the music and arts programs in local schools.

Thanks to the companies and individuals who sponsor Music at Skypark and the patrons who come out every year, Kiwanis has raised more than $200,000 to help keep music programs alive in local schools through some very trying times.

So come out to Skypark in Scotts Valley on the last Sundays in August and September for some excellent music, food and drink as well as games for the kids.

If you are wondering how to contribute to the community, come join Kiwanis of Scotts Valley for breakfast. They meet at Auntie Mames every Wednesday at 7am. Visit svkiwanis.org for more information.
