Local theaters premiere winter shows

As the holidays approach, local theaters, in Scotts Valley, Ben Lomond and Santa Cruz prepare to bring theater to the community with winter performances.
 
Mountain Community Theater presents classic
Opening on Friday, Nov. 22, MCT presents “It’s A Wonderful Life” directed by Daria Troxell with MCT alumnus Nat Robinson starring as George Bailey.
“I feel that this show reinforces the positive in our lives,” Troxell said. “It allows us to do some self-reflection and we come away knowing we truly do have wonderful lives.”
Troxell approaches the holiday classic with a fresh interpretation that focuses on the play-write instead of the movie, actor Karin Babbitt, who plays Mother Bailey, said.
“If you think the movie is emotional, I suggest you come out and see it acted in front of you,” Karin Babbitt said. “It’s going to be a very emotional show.”
The show will run eleven performances from Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Dec. 15, with no show on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Friday and Saturday shows will start at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. General admission is $20, student admission, $17 and under-12 will be $10.
“Second Class” to open in Scotts Valley
Scotts Valley High School’s Drama Department opens its doors to theater-goers who want a laugh with their production of Brad Slaight’s “Second Class.”
The play addresses contemporary issues, such as bullying, cheating and stereotyping, in a humorous and enlightening way.
The Second class is directed by Karin Babbitt with assistance from SVHS and drama department alumna Kendra Kannegaard. The ensemble cast consists of 20 students on stage, with 10 students in the wings working with sound, light and set design.
Performances will run December 5, 6, 7 and 12, 13, 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the SVHS Student Union Building.
General admission is $10 and student admission, $8. Tickets may be purchased at the door or before-hand on www.showtix4u.com.
Seuss comes to the state
“Seussical the Musical Jr.” will be performed by Christian Youth Theater and will open Friday, Nov. 15.
The show will be at the Louden Nelson Community Theater, 301 Center Street, in Santa Cruz. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on November 15, 22, and 23. The show will also be performed at 3 p.m. November 16, 17, 23 and 24.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for kids and seniors.
