The results are in, and a handful of local residents took home first-place ribbons and best-of-show awards at the 2009 Santa Cruz County Fair.
Ben Lomond’s Daniel Kraft took home eight first-place ribbons in the junior dairy goat division. The Felton 4-H member was the biggest winner among locals in the livestock competition during the fair, which ran Sept. 15 through 20.
Autumn Bushard from Ben Lomond, also representing Felton 4-H, won two first-place ribbons in the registered Nigerian dwarf division for her junior dairy goats.
Fellow Felton 4-H’er Jessica Jensen of Ben Lomond took home a first-place ribbon for her livestock educational display on swine.
Simone Bushard, also from Felton 4-H and Ben Lomond, won a ribbon for showmanship in the dairy goat division.
Danielle and Michaela Crill, both of Boulder Creek, won ribbons for their goat and poultry livestock educational displays as part of Felton 4-H.
Angela Shaver of Boulder Creek won a ribbon for her market poultry in the poultry meat pen division.
Scotts Valley’s Edee Wildman, representing Scotts Valley 4-H, won in the open hog carcass contest and also won two showmanship ribbons in the swine division.
In the non-livestock categories, Ben Lomond’s Rachael Andersen won Best of Show in junior fine arts, Scotts Valley’s David Donofrio won Best of Show in winemaking, and Karena Banuelos won with a black-and-white photo in photography.
