As of Aug. 25, Caltrans initiated an emergency project on the northbound lane of Highway 9 between Lorenzo and Prospect avenues, about one-mile south of the Junction with State Route 237.
Work is scheduled for completion by Dec. 5, if weather permits.
One northbound lane on Highway 9 will remain closed throughout construction. A traffic signal system is in place to manage alternating one-way traffic 24/7.
Flaggers will be present only when oversized equipment or materials are delivered.
Travelers should anticipate a five-minute delay and plan for extra time when moving through the work zone.
Granite Construction Company is constructing the project for $6.25 million. The project involves staged construction with shoring in the highway median, excavation to the bottom of the retaining wall footing and replacement of the existing culvert.
This emergency work is designed to maintain roadway stability, ensure safety and preserve the long-term reliability of this mountain corridor.
Caltrans reminds travelers to reduce speed in the work zones and stay alert for crews and equipment.
The project on hwy 9 with the traffic light is taking 45 min wait time. I just came through and the line coming into Boulder Creek was very long and we stopped 3 times. There were only about 10 cars waiting to leave Boulder Creek, same thing in the morning—I went through very quickly. Is there a specific reason why the traffic controller would make this happen?
