A 45-year-old man crashed his motorcycle in Scotts Valley after being pursued by California Highway Patrol Officers on Highway 17 into Scotts Valley at 8:10 a.m. on Monday morning.
The man, Matthew Wilkey of Santa Barbara, was riding a motorcycle on southbound Highway 17 when an officer attempted to make a traffic stop for excessive speed and equipment violations. Wilkey failed to stop and exited the highway at Mount Hermon Road where a short pursuit occurred. After a short distance Wilkey lost control of the motorcycle and crashed on El Rancho Drive.
According a a CHP report, Wilkey was combative after the crash and an officer discharged a taser before arresting Wilkey, who was determined to be under the influence of drugs.
He was also found in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, hypodermic needles.
He was arrested on felony charges of recklessly evading a peace officer and possession of drugs with intent to sell; and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest, along with other drug charges.
