Alan Yelensky, 71, of Los Gatos was identified this week as the man killed in a motorcycle accident on Granite Creek Road in Scotts Valley on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Yelensky was riding a Zero electric motorcycle and was killed when he crossed over the yellow line and into the path of an oncoming Ford F-250 pickup truck.
“The motorcyclist either attempted to pass or drifted across and collided with the Ford truck,” said CHP Officer Brad Sadek.
Yelensky, according to the CHP, was thrown from the motorcycle and fell approximately 15 feet down an embankment. He was pronounced dead by emergency crews at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old man from Santa Cruz, was uninjured.
Sadek said an investigation is still being conducted.
Members of Four Corners Motorcycle Group, of which Yelensky was part of, is planning a memorial ride on January 25 by way of an online message board. Yelensky appeared to be an avid motorcyclist and well-known by many in the riding community.
According to a 2011 San Jose Mercury News article, Yelensky was a retired investment planner.
