Scotts Valley Mayor Dene Bustichi and Santa Cruz Mayor Ryan Coonerty have placed a friendly $100 wager on Friday night’s football game between Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz high schools
The game, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. today, Oct. 28, at Santa Cruz High, features two of the top teams in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. The Cardinals lead the league with a 3-0 record, and Scotts Valley is 3-1.
If Bustichi wins, Coonerty must donate $100 to Valley Churches United Missions and take a proclamation to a Santa Cruz City Council meeting dedicating the day to the Scotts Valley High School football team. If Coonerty wins the bet, Bustichi must donate $100 to Second Harvest Food Bank and take a proclamation to his City Council meeting dedicating the day to the Santa Cruz team.
“Both of us called the coaches and got promises that they’d win, so I think we’re both feeling pretty confident,” Coonerty said Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Bustichi said he and Coonerty have worked together on several issues, and Coonerty e-mailed him with the wager.
