A celebration of life will be Saturday, Jan. 7, at Felton Bible Church for longtime valley resident Michael Jon “Mike” Downs. He died Dec. 23 in Santa Cruz at age 47.
Born in San Jose, Mr. Downs was, in the early 1980s, the youngest person to be certified by the state as a licensed exterminator. He also worked many years at Lompico Water District.
Relatives said Mr. Downs was a true “valley boy,” most comfortable with his friends and family in the San Lorenzo Valley.
He is survived by his parents, Dick and Jeane Downs of Felton; sisters, Susan Johnson, and her husband Nathaniel, of Felton and Mari Wowak, and her partner, Ed Rossi, of Scotts Valley; and three nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother David Downs.
A celebration of Mr. Downs’ life will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in the fireside room at Felton Bible Church, 5999 Graham Hill Road, followed by a reception. Burial in Felton Cemetery will be private.
