A private memorial will be held in the spring for longtime Felton resident Mike Tierney, who died Feb. 16. He was 90 years old.
Born in Ireland in 1920, Mr. Tierney became a naturalized citizen of the United States.
As a young man, Mr. Tierney worked in construction and built houses in Sacramento. He plied that trade during trips to Africa and Australia. During the Vietnam War, he worked in construction for the South Vietnamese government.
In his later years, he spent his time taking care of his wife and working outdoors. He loved to garden and went on walks every day
Around the house, Mr. Tierney was a handyman, and relatives said he had an inquisitive and inventive mind.
Mr. Tierney is survived by his wife of more than 20 years, Marion “Polly” J. Tierney of Santa Cruz; son, Michael Tierney of Washington; daughter, Janel Tierney-White, and her husband, Gary, of Felton; son-in-law, Duane Cooper of Sacramento; stepdaughters, Georgia Keeran of Fiddletown and Joan Phelan of Palo Alto; brother, Maurice Tierney of Irelend; sister, Teresa Bondolfi of England; a grandson; and many friends.
A private memorial for relatives and friends is planned for the spring.
