A motorcycle ride-in at Street Lethal Industries in Scotts Valley raised $500 and three big barrels of food to support Second Harvest Food bank earlier this month.
The June 8 “Canned Food Drive-in” brought in bikers from around the county for a day of music, food and fun, organized by Josh Sheehan.
“It was something for all the rest of us,” said Sheehan. “One percent are outlaw bikers, and we have respect for that, but the rest of us don’t fall into that category.”
The ride-in took place in the parking lot at Street Lethal Industries, 5042 Scotts Valley Drive, behind Scotts Valley Car Wash. The day featured music from the band Hip Shake, food and a time for bikers to get together. It was also an opportunity to break stereotypes.
“We are upstanding members of the community,” Sheehan said. “Just because we ride a motorcycle and look the part of street trash, doesn’t mean we are. We enjoy riding motorcycles and we wanted to join up as a force and make an impact.”
Between 100 and 200 people came to the ride-in during the day, toting canned food and cash for the cause. Sheehan said he hopes the drive-in will become an annual event, and he hopes to host other events.
He said Buic Godfrey and Risha Eryavec were helpful in organizing the event.
