Mount Hermon to unveil meadow plans Tuesday

 
 
Mount Hermon Association will unveil its plans for a much-debated Felton meadow at a meeting for local residents Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Mount Hermon.
The association purchased the 14.8-acre property from South County Housing, a Gilroy-based nonprofit, on May 16. South County’s plans to build low-cost housing in the meadow had collapsed amid environmental objections and neighborhood concerns.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Newton Memorial building, 37 Conference Drive, in Mount Hermon. The meeting place is across Conference Drive from the main parking lot on the grounds of the Christian conference center run by the association.
When the meadow was purchased, Mount Hermon leaders spoke of a vision of outdoor recreational use, keeping the property mostly green and scenic.
Alden Johanson, chief operating officer of Mount Hermon Association, said the association has been working with a landscape architect for several months on plans for the property that is bounded by East Zayante Road, Conference Drive and the Felton Faire shopping center.
“There is definitely no residential or office,” Johanson said. “It will still be the way we’ve been describing it (from the beginning).”
Since purchasing the meadow, Johanson said, the association has cleared brush and cleaned up several homeless encampments. A fence has been constructed around the land, bordered by a trail for public use. The meadow used to be a shortcut for many people traveling from East Zayante Road or Conference Drive to the Felton Faire shopping center.
At the Tuesday meeting, residents will have a chance to look at maps and illustrations and ask questions.
