The girls Mountain Dream under-14 fastpitch softball team finished its season by competing in the Western Regional Nationals Tournament in Kayesville, Utah.
The tournament experience was viewed as a success for the Dreamers as they finished the tournament with a 3-3 record, with two of the three wins coming against strong Southern California teams.
As with the majority of the 40 teams at the tournament, the Southern California teams had the advantage of creating all-star teams from a population of hundreds and hundreds of kids — Mountain Dream had a pool of 40 girls from a small Santa Cruz Mountains community.
These wins were “huge” for the girls as they attained mid-bracket placement
The team finished the season with a 20-11 record, including a first-place finish in a Pleasant Hill tournament, a second-place finish in Lake Tahoe, a third-place finish in Soquel and reaching qualification to play in the Regional Nationals.
The Dream relied on sponsorships from local businesses and individuals to help pay for the trip to Utah.
