Former Ben Lomond shop owner Murial Smith-Bockius died July 10 at Flors Guest Home in Santa Cruz following a four-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 88.
She was born in Merced to Margaret and George Williams. Her father had worked the Williams cattle ranch in Hunter’s Valley in the early 1900s.
An interior designer with a background in art training at Stanford University, San Jose State University and University of California, Berkeley, Mrs. Smith-Bockius moved to Ben Lomond in 1959 and ran her antique and gift shop, the Lions Lair Antique Shop in Ben Lomond, until 2007. Many of her customers became close friends.
She is survived by one daughter, Tempie Smith-Abate of Orange.
Arrangements are under the direction of Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, in Santa Cruz.
