Museum hosts model trains
Through the month of September, the San Lorenzo Valley Museum, 122547 Highway 9, in Boulder Creek, has a model train exhibition on display. Model trains from families and collectors all over the area have been set up inside the museum for viewing.
Admission is free to the museum, which is open from noon to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 2, with a prize drawing that day for a Bachman N-Scale Frontiersman Train Set valued at $180.

Boosted police patrols net DUI drivers
Grant money from the state’s Office of Traffic Safety allowed officers of the Scotts Valley Police Department to increase nighttime patrols to combat drunken driving in recent weeks.
From Aug. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 4, the patrols netted 12 arrests for driving under the influence — four over Labor Day weekend alone.
According to Lt. John Wilson, the grant money, shared between the Scotts Valley and Capitola police departments, allowed the department to pay overtime to its officers to conduct what are known as “saturation patrols.”
River, coastal cleanup on tap
SLVCORE.org will coordinate with Save Our Shores for the annual Coastal and River Cleanup Day at 9 a.m. Sept. 17, a Saturday. Residents in the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley are invited to participate. In Felton, the meeting place is at the Felton Covered Bridge.
At the same time, the Valley Women’s Club will host the 25th annual Al Haynes Memorial River and Road Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two sites: in Ben Lomond at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Highway 9 and in Boulder Creek at the SLV Redemption and Recycling Center, behind Village Wash and Dry.
