‘Valengrams’ available for special someone
Quartets from the Gold Standard Chorus are offering to deliver Valengrams this Valentine’s Day: two love songs, a rose, a card and a pin that says, “Your special someone sent a quartet to sing for you on Valentine’s Day. Everyone should be loved that much.”
Delivery will be on two separate days: between noon and 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The cost is $45, and profits will support the Gold Standard Chorus activities throughout the year.

Local historian to speak at SLV Museum
The San Lorenzo Valley Museum will host the first in a series of historical talks and discussions about the history of the people, industries and communities of the San Lorenzo Valley.
On Sunday, Feb. 19, Randall Brown, a local historian, will join several guests to discuss his recently published book “The San Lorenzo Valley Water District: A History,” at the Highlands Park Senior Center, 8500 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond.
Brown will discuss his book, which describes the history of water rights and use from the Civil War era to the present and the evolution of the present-day SLV Water District.
The event is free, but a $5 donation per family is suggested.

Red Cross seeks hero award nominations
The American Red Cross Monterey Bay Area Chapter seeks nominations for its annual Hero Awards, which recognize community members whose acts have shown courage, kindness, dedication and character.
Nominations can be made in the areas of animal rescue; Good Samaritan acts by both adults and youth; law enforcement; education; medical professionals; rescue professionals; in the workplace; and the military. Nominations will also be taken for lifetime achievement.
The deadline to nominate someone is April 2.

Valentine’s pet adoptions
Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter, 2200 Seventh Ave., in Santa Cruz, will host its second “Meet Your Match” Valentine’s pet adoption event this weekend.
The price to adopt an animal will be halved from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Adoption costs cover a spay or neuter operation, identity microchip, vaccinations, wellness exams, collar and leash for dogs and cat carrier for cats.
