Ben Lomond history show set for Park Hall
Ben Lomond realtor and historian Ronnie Trubek will discuss and present her collection of historic photos, postcards and other town memorabilia Sunday, Aug. 26, at Park Hall in Ben Lomond.
The presentation, the second part in a series commemorating Ben Lomond’s 125th anniversary, will feature a slideshow and will follow the community’s history and development from its inception in 1887 to the present day.
Trubek’s collection of antique photos, maps, resort brochures, business memorabilia and other Ben Lomond collectibles will be on display, and residents are encouraged to bring any historic items they may have to display as well.
Old-timers are also encouraged to participate in the event to help identify people and places in the photos, as well as to share stories of Ben Lomond’s past.
The event starts at 5 p.m., and the suggested donation for admission is $5, or $3 for seniors. Those 21 and younger get in free.

New development announces raffle
As bait to lure potential homebuyers, City Ventures — builder of the Town Center Collection homes on Blue Bonnet Lane — will raffle off two pairs of tickets to the 2012 Scotts Valley Artisans Summer Gala.
The Town Center Collection is a development of 46 townhouses being built near the site of the planned Scotts Valley Town Center on Kings Village Road.
To qualify for the drawing, entrants must visit City Ventures’ sales center, be a new visitor to the Town Center Collection, fill out a registration card, and be in the market for a new home.
There is no cost to enter the raffle, which is from Wednesday, Aug. 22, through Friday, Aug. 24.

Parenting support group offered
In partnership with First 5, Mountain Community Resources will offer free Triple P Positive Parenting Support groups this fall.
The eight-session series will help parents share challenges, set goals and learn strategies to deal with family issues, as well at to learn effective responses to children’s needs.
Free childcare and light dinner will be provided.
The series will take place Wednesdays beginning Sept. 5 through Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mountain Community Resources, 6134 Highway 9, in Felton.

Cal Fire suspends burn permits
As of Wednesday, Aug. 15, Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott suspended all outdoor burn permits within the areas that Cal Fire services.
The suspension will remain in place indefinitely and bans burning because of the high risk of wildfires during the dry, late-summer months.
Campfires are allowed so long as they are properly built and maintained away from wildland vegetation.
