Boulder Creek Rec wins grant
The Boulder Creek Parks and Recreation District announced Aug. 13 that the district won a $31,224 grant from the Roberti Z-Berg Harris Block Grant monitored through the state parks system.
With the grant money, the district built new interpretive signs, new landscaping, a river viewing area, a water mister and new trash receptacles at Junction Park.
Felton fire plans safety class
The Felton Fire Protection District will host a three-hour emergency-preparedness class at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3.
The class will help local residents prepare a family plan, put together an emergency kit and learn what to do in a disaster, such as an earthquake, fire or severe winter storm.
The class is limited to 20 seats. Participants should register in advance.

Learn Arabic in Santa Cruz
The Arabic alphabet, vocabulary and common questions about the language will be taught in an Arabic class this fall in Santa Cruz.
The class will meet Thursday evenings for 10 weeks beginning Sept. 17. Registration ends Sept. 7.
Teacher Nabil Ghachem will lead the class from 7:15 to 9 p.m. at the Resource Center for Nonviolence, 515 Broadway, in Santa Cruz.
