District looks into Aviza tech site
The Scotts Valley Unified School District met on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in closed session to receive information about the former Aviza property at 440 Kings Village Road in Scotts Valley. According to the agenda item, the district was exploring the potential parcel value, terms and price. Scotts Valley City Councilmember Dene Bustichi was also present.
No reportable action was taken on the agenda item, said Superintendent Penny Weaver and the district has not made any kind of offer to purchase or lease the property.
“We are working on possible funding models and ways we might deal with our facility issues,” Weaver said the next day.
Coloring contest winners announced
During October, Scotts Valley resident and author Anita Telle visited Vine Hill and Brook Knoll elementary schools to read her books and spread an anti-bullying message. A coloring contest, with a chance to win an autographed book was taken on by students. The winners of the contest include, from Brook Knoll, fourth graders Elaina Benoit, Mackenzy Blanton, Max Kowalski, Justine Reynolds, Phoebe Clifton and Gabe Ahrens; and kindergarteners Jackson Paris and Natalie Murray.
First grader Jayden Engler won first with his poem, “Bulldoze bullying to make it instinct. If you don’t believe me just think, think, think. When bullies are here, there is lots of fear, when not there, there is peace everywhere.”

Redwood Mountain Faire seeks groups, musicians
The 2014 Redwood Mountain Faire seek applicants for grant groups, musicians, art and crafts and non-profit organizations for the faire. The profits from the Faire are divided among the participating grant groups who assist with tasks at the Faire.
The 2014 faire is Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1.
Nonprofits, service organizations, school groups and government agencies are invited to set up booths at the faire to provide information about their activities and services or to sell their nonprofit’s merchandise. There is a $25 table fee for information only and $50 for information and sales.

The Faire features music on two stages, juried arts and crafts, extensive children’s activities, wonderful food and beverages at Roaring Camp in Felton.
