Scotts Valley Farmer’s Market opens Saturday
The Scotts Valley Farmer’s Market will open for the season on Saturday April 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Scotts Valley Community Center, 360 Kings Village Road.
The market will run every Saturday through the fall.
For residents and farmers alike, the Scotts Valley Farmer’s Market is a gathering place for families, friends and neighbors, and provides a Kids Zone, music and events.

Food drive underway
Valley Churches United Missions annual “Buck for Hunger” food drive is underway. Donations to the aid organization campaign provide VCUM with funds to operate its direct aid and assistance programs throughout the year.
Valley Churches served 32,156 people through its food pantry in 2013, and donations are converted to direct aid assistance in the form of emergency food, gas vouchers, clothing, utility and rent assistance to avoid eviction, job training materials school supplies, minor emergency dental and disaster relief.
Donations may be dropped off at 9400 Highway 9 in Ben Lomond Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon; Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, 360 Kings Village Road, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or Ben Lomond Gas Station every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

SLV poetry reading approaches
The 10th Annual San Lorenzo Valley Poetry Reading will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the Felton Community Hall, 6191 Highway 9 in Felton.
The event is free of charge and will feature David Swanger, former Santa Cruz County Poet Laureate, and community members will read poetry on the theme of sharing.

Cal Fire hires seasonal firefighters
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection began to hire seasonal firefighters from Central California, the Bay Area region and the Sacramento Foothills on March 31.
Cal Fire has responded to more than 800 wildfires already in 2014 as more than 2,300 Californian acres have already set ablaze between January 1 and March 22.

Student art show in Scotts Valley
A student art show featuring Cypress Charter High School art students will be held from March 27 through April 15 at Scotts Valley Artisans, 230-D Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley. The art show will be open on Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
