SVUSD seeks Measure A oversight committee applicants
The Scotts Valley Unified School District’s Board of Education announced it is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders that will serve as the Independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC) for the implementation of the District’s Measure A school facilities bond program.
Selected appointees will serve one-to-two year terms, during which they will keep the public informed, review expenditure reports, and compose an annual written report outlining Measure A activities and conclusions regarding expenditures.
Completed applications should be sent or faxed to the Superintendent’s Office by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24.

Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter offers adoption specials on all animals
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is experiencing an overload of animals at its 7th Avenue facility in Santa Cruz, due in part to an influx of pets that stray from home when spooked by Fourth of July fireworks.
To free up space in the shelter, as well as encourage more animal adoptions, the following adoption specials will apply during the month of July 2014:
– Puppies and dogs — $75 adoption fee
– Kittens and cats — $50 adoption fee
– Rabbits — $25 adoption fee
All adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip (including registration), age-appropriate vaccinations and Felv/FIV testing, routine treatment for fleas/worms, collar and leash (for dogs), pet carrier (for cats) and a free pet wellness exam with local participating veterinarians.

MCT announces auditions for production of ‘Spamalot’
Mountain Community Theater announced that it will be hosting open auditions for its Fall production of Monty Python’s “Spamalot.”
According to a press release, auditions will be held at Park Hall — located at 9370 Mill Street in Ben Lomond — on Saturday, July 26, from 12 to 4 p.m., and on Monday, July 28, from 7 to 10 p.m.
