Lane closures and traffic delays expected on East Zayante, Glen Canyon roads
The Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works announced that East Zayante Road in Felton, and Glen Canyon Road in Scotts Valley will be subject to lane closures and traffic delays between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday, Aug. 25 to Friday, Nov. 21. 
The closures and delays are necessary for road improvements to damage caused by erosion and storm damage.
Construction on East Zayante Road will be at mile marker 6.22 while work on Glen Canyon Road will take place at mile marker 0.46.
According to a county press release, motorists may encounter delays up to 30 minutes.

SVPD launches Operation Safe Passage to protect students
The Scotts Valley Police Department is commencing “Operation Safe Passage,” which is designed to protect communing students around all local school zones in Scotts Valley.
From Wednesday, Aug. 27 to Thursday, Sept. 4, extra officers will be enforcing traffic violations – including failing to stop for school buses with flashing stop lights, speeding vehicles, jaywalking, failing to yield to pedestrians, juvenile bicyclists without required helmets, seatbelt and child car seat violations, cell phone and texting violations, and stop sign violations.
“At the beginning of each school year there are new kids walking and biking to school for the first time,” said Lt. Steve Walpole in a press release. “The extra officers assigned to each school will be a reminder to the students, and the motorists in the area, to follow the rules of the road and keep everyone safe during their travels.”
North County Democrats to host candidate endorsement forum
The Crosson North County Democratic Club will host a Candidate Endorsement Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for the upcoming November election.
North County candidates participating in the forum include Scotts Valley City Councilmember Stephany Aguilar, and Democratic candidates running for the San Lorenzo Valley and Lompico water districts.
The event will be held at Bruno’s BBQ, 230 Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley.
