SV Chamber to host celebration for Community Award winners
The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a celebratory dinner for the winners of the 2014 Scotts Valley Community Awards.
The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Scotts Valley Community Center from 6 to 10 p.m.
This year’s individual honorees will be: Beth Hollenbeck (Educator of the Year), Robert Aldana (Alvin Scarborough Memorial Man of the Year), Linda Benko (Woman of the Year), Ayan Patel (Sharemi Ullestad Memorial Youth of the Year), and Marlene Flannery (Senior Citizen of the Year).
The event will also recognize Bruno’s BBQ and Catering (Business of the Year), the Annette Marcum Community Garden (Beautification Project of the Year), and the Team G Childhood Cancer Foundation (Organization of the Year).
Tickets are $75 if reserved by Friday, Oct. 31. Tickets include complimentary champagne, hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, live music, a cocktail/wine bar, and a western barbecue buffet.

SLV Museum to host annual dinner event to honor veterans
The San Lorenzo Valley Museum will be hosting a dinner and program saluting veterans for their service.
Veterans are encouraged to wear their military uniforms and medals, and to bring a memento of their service to display and share.
The dinner will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Scopazzi’s in Boulder Creek from 5:45 to 9 p.m.
Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, and $35 for veterans and active-duty personnel. They are available for purchase at Boulder Creek Hardware, Joe’s Bar, The Redwood Keg, Scarborough Lumber, Liberty Bank, and the SLV Museum, as well as online at www.slvmuseum.com

‘Color me Abstract’ art exhibit to debut at SV Library
The community is invited to celebrate color play in abstract art with the “Color me Abstract” installation at the Scotts Valley Library, an installment of the Art in the Library Program.
“Color me Abstract” features a variety of artistic mediums and features 10 local artists.  The exhibit opens on Saturday, Nov. 1 and will continue through Jan 24.
A reception, including a meet-and-greet with the artists, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Spare the Air program presentation heads to SLV
The Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District will be giving a presentation regarding the district’s voluntary Spare the Air program that is beginning in the San Lorenzo Valley.
It will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
