Some flu vaccine recalled
A small portion of the H1N1 flu vaccine distributed and administered to children 6 months through 3 years old in Santa Cruz County was recalled last week due to a lack of potency.
A manufacturer, Sanofi Pasteur, notified health officials that the potency of four lots of pediatric syringes was found to have dropped after the vaccine was distributed.
However, county health officials say that children should still receive just two doses of the vaccine about a month apart, even if they received one of the recalled vaccines.
Before the recall, Santa Cruz administered 73 doses from those lots to infants and young children between 6 months and 3 years old at walk-in clinics Dec. 9 and 12.
All health care providers who received the recalled vaccine have been notified.
The recall is not related to the safety of the vaccine.
