Christmas tree recycling
Santa Cruz County will pick up Christmas trees on regular garbage-collection days from Monday, Jan. 4, through Jan. 22 in the unincorporated areas of the county.
Also, fire stations in Felton, Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond and Scotts Valley have bins that serve as drop-off spots for Christmas trees now through Jan. 16.
The residential curbside collection requires that trees be cut to lengths 6 feet or shorter and that ornaments, tinsel and tree stands be removed. Flocked trees will not be accepted.
Trees will be chipped for mulch for plants or used to generate electricity.
