SLV Museum book signing
The San Lorenzo Valley Museum will host a lecture and book signing by the five authors of “Pathways to the Past — Adventures.” The book is the sixth in a series of Santa Cruz County History Journals published by the Museum of Art and History that focus on people, places and events in Santa Cruz County history.
Authors Barbara Kennedy, Alverda Orlando, Edith Perry, Frank Perry and Colleen McInerney-Meagher will talk about their stories.
The signing will begin at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 at Highlands Park Senior Center, 8500 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond. Books will be available, and a $5 donation per family is appreciated.

Library opens usage survey
The Santa Cruz County Public Library system is asking people in the county to fill out an online survey to aid in developing a 3-to-5-year strategic plan for the library system including how branches in Felton, Boulder Creek and Scotts Valley fit into the system.
The survey is at www.surveymonkey.com/s/scplcommunity and takes five to 10 minutes to complete.
Omega Nu offers cash for teachers
Teachers at San Lorenzo Valley, Brook Knoll and Bonny Doon elementary schools are eligible for a $150 grant from Omega Nu through the Funds for Fundamentals program.
Individual teachers can apply for the grant by getting an application from their principal or office secretary or at www.duckyderbysantacruz.com/fundamentals.html.
The application must be postmarked by Jan. 29.
Omega Nu has distributed $95,200 through the program in five years of existence.
Other local elementary schools will be eligible in 2011.
Bonny Doon registration
Bonny Doon Elementary School is accepting registration for the 2010-11 school year for children in the Bonny Doon School District. Incoming kindergartners must be 5 years old by Dec. 2, 2010.
Registration will be at the office on 1492 Pine Flat Road. A copy of each student’s birth certificate and up-to-date immunization records is required.
Calendar contest opens
Santa Cruz County students in first through eighth grades can submit a poster as part of the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District’s 12th annual Clean Air Month Calendar Art Contest.
The theme is “Let’s Clear the Air,” and students are invited to show how their families can improve air quality by biking, walking, carpooling, riding the bus, telecommuting or other ideas.
The deadline to submit posters is March 19, and the winning artwork will be featured in a calendar. Artwork should be sent to MBUAPCD, 24580 Silver Cloud Court, Monterey, CA 93940.

Circus heads to county fairgrounds
Circus Gatti will be at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds one day this spring, April 13.
The visit is a fundraiser for the Watsonville Police Officers Association, which sponsors youth sports and helps local nonprofits, among other pursuits.
The circus time will be announced later.
