Bonny Doon festival raises $40,000 for schools
The Bonny Doon Art and Wine Festival on Sunday, June 5, grossed more than $40,000 for Bonny Doon School.
The annual festival at the Bonny Doon Airport Gardens included silent and live auctions, wine, gourmet food and live jazz, to go along with classic car and aircraft displays.
Artist Duane Armstrong’s work was featured in the auction. The day was sponsored by Beauregard Winery, with support from a number of local businesses. Twelve wineries participated in the sold-out festival, which drew more than 500 people.
School tax survey goes out to voters
A public opinion survey was e-mailed last week to parents and students in the Scotts Valley Unified School district to find out how many would support an annual five- or seven-year parcel tax.
The questions asked whether voters would support a $150-per-year parcel tax for five years or a $98-per-acre parcel tax with a cap of $450 per parcel. It also asked whether their vote would change if the district asked for a seven-year tax.
The survey specified the tax as having an exemption for people 65 years old and older.
The survey noted that it was distributed online only to those associated with the school — about 20 percent of voters in the city — in order to find out what the school community would support.
