Recycle Christmas trees in January
Residents of Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley can put cut trees out on the curb to be picked up on regular trash pickup days in the coming month. The trees will be recycled into mulch.
• In Scotts Valley, trees will be collected from the curb on garbage pickup days through Jan. 28. Trees must be chopped into sections no longer than 6 feet, and ornamentation must be removed. Residents without garbage pickup can leave trees in a container across from the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District, 7 Erba Lane.
• In the San Lorenzo Valley, Santa Cruz County will pick up trees on regular garbage collection days until Jan. 16. For curbside collection, trees must be cut into sections 6 feet or shorter and have all ornamentation and flocking removed.
Fire stations in Felton and Boulder Creek, as well as the Ben Lomond Transfer Station, also will have bins where trees can be dropped.
