Woman arrested for smuggling contraband into camp
A 50-year-old woman was arrested Jan. 26 after California Department of Corrections officers at the Ben Lomond Conservation Camp in Bonny Doon saw her drop two large bags on the ground near the entrance of the low-security detention facility. Two inmates, one of whom was her son, retrieved the bags, which contained methamphetamine, marijuana, tobacco, food, a cell phone and other things.
The woman, Rhoda Nunley of Wheatland, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime, taking a controlled substance into a jail, taking alcohol to a jail and other charges.
Boat storage opens in Loch Lomond
Beginning March 1, Loch Lomond Reservoir in Felton will be open for outdoor boat storage for the summer season.
Boats — canoes, kayaks, aluminum fishing boats — can be stored on the lake for a fee from March 1 through Oct. 9.
Storage for the season is $200. Boat owners also must pay a $25 decontamination fee and either buy a $20 launch pass or pay $2 per launch. There is no trailer storage.
Boaters may schedule a decontamination appointment this month to get their boats in the water March 1. Boats that are taken out of Loch Lomond must be decontaminated each time they are returned to the reservoir, 100 Loch Lomond Way.

High school earns cash from holiday singing
The Scotts Valley High vocal music program received a check for $640 from the Gold Standard Barbershop Chorus for performing in Sing for Your Life in November. The annual fundraiser raised nearly $11,000 that was delivered to local school music programs. The fundraiser was in its eighth year.
County fair poster contest extended
The deadline for high school and college students to submit artwork online for the annual Santa Cruz County Fair poster contest has been extended to Feb. 11 after teachers asked organizers to change the deadline.
Students can turn this year’s theme, “Dancing with the Steers for 200 Years,” into a piece of original art used to promote the fair.
The winner will receive $100 and passes to the 2011 fair.

Baymonte kindergarten info night on tap
Baymonte Christian School will have teachers available to speak with parents of potential kindergartners during Kindergarten Information Night at 7 p.m. Feb. 17.
The Christian school, 5000 Granite Creek Road, in Scotts Valley, is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Felton FLOW to show film
Felton Friends of Locally Owned Water will host a free showing of the German documentary “Water Makes Money” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Satellite Telework Centers, 6265 Highway 9, in Felton.
The film is a second water-related documentary by Leslie Franke and Herdolor Lorenz, who featured Felton’s water battle in their 2005 documentary “H20 Up for Sale.”
FLOW will give an update on Felton’s water system before the film starts. Any donations will be sent to the filmmakers.

Nonprofit faire seeks vendors, nonprofits
The Redwood Mountain Faire, a two-day festival at Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton on June 4 and 5, seeks local artists, artisans, nonprofits and food vendors to participate.
As many as 60 arts and crafts booths will be accepted, and all items must be handmade to be considered. Nonprofits can apply to help and earn money through their service. Applications are available at www.redwoodmountainfaire.com or by calling 216-6535.

SLV Museum seeks docents
The San Lorenzo Valley Museum will accept new docents to staff the Boulder Creek museum.
