Senior center to look for new director
Applications will be accepted beginning April 1 for the position of senior recreation coordinator with Scotts Valley Parks and Recreation, said Conrad Sudduth, recreation division manager.
The part-time position directing activities at Scotts Valley Senior Center became vacant with the departure of Lori Barone, who was hired in December and resigned last month.
The senior center is managed on an interim basis by John Kiegelis.
Laird becomes secretary for natural resources
Santa Cruz’s John Laird was confirmed by the California State Senate as the California State Secretary for Natural Resources on March 7. He was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown in January.
“I look forward to working with Governor Brown to restore and protect California’s natural resources, in order to provide habitat for wildlife, clean energy, healthy forests, and a safe, reliable water supply for all Californians,” Laird said in a prepared statement.
Boulder Creek band announces CD release
Boulder Creek’s Dead Men Rocking announced that it will release “Dead Men Live” during a CD release show at 9 p.m. March 19 at Henfling’s Tavern, 9450 Highway 9, in Ben Lomond.

Swimming lessons start in Scotts Valley
Swim classes taught by longtime aquatics coordinator Heidi Sussman are set to begin at Siltanen Family Swim Center in Scotts Valley.
Lessons will begin March 22 in three-week sessions, which meet for 30 minutes two days each week, either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays,.
Classes will be scheduled between 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., and private instruction is also available.
Group parent-baby lessons are available for children 6 months to 3 years old.
