Lions hoist flag
Lowell Tucker of West Coast Crane and Jay Mosley of the Scotts Valley Host Lions Club threaded the bindings for a flag on the long-bare flagpole at Vine Hill Elementary School last week.
Tucker raised Mosley in a bucket to the top of the pole on Saturday, March 12. The Lions will present and hoist a new flag on Friday, March 18, at Vine Hill.
‘Spider’s Web’ show opens next weekend
Scotts Valley director Bari Miller is directing her daughter and granddaughter, among a talented cast, in the upcoming production of Agatha Christie’s “Spider’s Web,” which opens Friday, March 25, at the Market Street Theater, 222 Market St., in Santa Cruz.
Miller’s daughter and granddaughter, Christina and Morgan Cree of Mount Hermon, play key roles in the murder mystery.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 25 and 26 and April 1 and 2; and there is a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. March 27. Tickets are available at the door for $15, and $6 for children under 12.
Kindergarten registration day on tap
San Lorenzo Valley Elementary School will host its annual kindergarten registration day from 8:30 to 3 p.m. March 24 at the school, 7155 Highway 9, in Felton.
Parents are encouraged to bring their child and take part in the meet-and-greet event. Bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security number and proof of physical examination. Classroom tours begin each half hour from 9 to 11 a.m., and teachers will be on hand to answer questions after the tour.

Heroes deadline approaches
The deadline to nominate a local hero who has made a positive impact on the Santa Cruz County is April 1. Heroes will be recognized at the annual American Red Cross Heroes Breakfast on Friday, May 18.

Scotts Valley 4-H club to make quilts for soldiers
The Scotts Valley 4-H Club leaders Rosa Kitchen and Mindy Gillen will host a community service project from 1 to 4 p.m. March 30 and 31 at Sue Dee’s Fabric Shop, 222-G Mt. Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley.
The club invites young people to come and make quilt squares that will be put together as a quilt for wounded U.S. soldiers. The club will use red, white and blue fabrics and any level of sewer is welcome.
