Major Highway 17 work begins
The California Department of Transportation began work Sunday, June 5, on a $18 million drainage and resurfacing project on Highway 17.
Caltrans will work seven days a week to install new drains, repave the road and make other safety improvements, including upgrades to the concrete median barrier and metal guard rails from south of Summit Road to one mile south of Bear Creek Road.
Work is scheduled for nighttime Sunday through Thursday, starting at 9 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m. the following day. Work will typically start at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and end by 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday mornings.
At least one lane will be open in both southbound and northbound directions during the duration of the construction. The project is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
