Draft of district lines complete
The California Redistricting Commission released its first draft of new Assembly, Senate, and Congressional district lines this week. The lines can be found at www.redrawca.org.
Residents can type in their ZIP codes to see present and proposed districts. People can also make comments directly on the map, whether they like or dislike the proposed boundaries.
Superintendent interviews to start
Scotts Valley Unified School District will have a special closed-session meeting from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. June 20 at the Hilton hotel in Scotts Valley to interview applicants for district superintendent. Susan Silver will retire from the position this summer.
Fire season opens in county
Fire season has begun in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced Monday, June 13.
The San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit has begun to staff six fire engines, a bulldozer and five fire crews. In July, the staffing level will increase to 12 engines. The force is augmented by seasonal crews, most of whom have firefighting experience.
The seasonal firefighters receive training in wildland and structural firefighting and certification in hazardous materials and emergency medical response.

Boulder Creek parade detours announced
The annual Boulder Creek Fourth of July parade, sponsored by the Boulder Creek Business Association, will set up at 12788 Highway 9 (at Flat Street) between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. July 4.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Highway 9 at Flat Street and end at Highway 236. Highway 9 will be closed during the parade. The participants will exit on Highway 236 and turn left at Pine Street, which also will be closed during the parade.
Several detours will be in place, and the California Highway Patrol will direct traffic.
Traffic on Highway 9 southbound will be detoured left on South Street, right on Boulder Street, left on Harmon Street, right on Oak Street across Highway 236, right on Lorenzo Street and finally left back onto Highway 9.
From Highway 9 northbound, the detour is right on Lorenzo Street, left on Oak Street, right on Highway 236, left on Laurel Street, left on Harmon Street, right on Boulder Street, left on South Street and right onto Highway 9.
The detour will be in effect from 10 a.m. to noon.
