Old Scotts Valley photos needed
The Scotts Valley Historical Society is seeking photographs of local historical interest. Santa Cruz Public Libraries received a grant from the California State Library to digitize photos documenting the history and development of Scotts Valley.
The digital images will become part of the University of California and California Digital Library, to be used by students studying state history and anyone searching the Digital Library’s archives. The images will also become part of the library’s history photographs section on its website.
Examples of photographs that will be considered are images of Santa’s Village, Scotts Valley Cavalcade, The Barn, old Glenwood, Alfred Hitchcock, Camp Evers and the Tree Circus, as well as the people and industries that have been a part of Scotts Valley’s past.
Owners of the photographs will be acknowledged, and all photos will be returned.

Flu shot info at fingertips
Details about flu shots in Santa Cruz County are available by dialing 211.
The information center can provide a list of places to get seasonal flu vaccines in the county.
The 211 Santa Cruz County Call Center is operated by United Way of the Bay Area and provides information about local community services like food, shelter, counseling, employment assistance, child care, and more. During an emergency, 211 shares information about evacuation routes, food and shelter and other support services.

Museum to host vets dinner
The San Lorenzo Valley Museum will have its second Veterans Day Dinner from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 11, a Friday, at Scopazzi’s Restaurant in Boulder Creek. All are invited to honor and thank San Lorenzo Valley veterans for their military service.
Tickets are $40 for salmon or a vegetarian meal and $45 for prime rib, discounted to $35 for any veteran or active-duty service member. Veterans are encouraged to wear or take mementos from their military service.
The restaurant is at 13300 Big Basin Way.

SPCA selects national architect for cageless shelter
The Santa Cruz SPCA has selected BDA Architecture of Albuquerque, N.M., to design a 6,000 square-foot shelter on a recently purchased lot at 2601 Chanticleer Ave., in Santa Cruz.
BDA designs only animal-care facilities and has completed more than 600 in 42 states and nine countries since it was founded in 1986.
The state-of-the-art facility will have no cages, the SPCA representatives said. It will be designed to meet LEED certification requirements, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Design.
The SPCA’s existing shelter is at 2685 Chanticleer Ave.
Citizen member needed for library board
Santa Cruz Public Libraries is seeking a new citizen member of the Library Joint Powers Board, the governing body of the library system.
The citizen member must live in the geographical area south of the city of Santa Cruz to the Watsonville city limit. The four-year-appointment begins in January.
The board meets the first Monday of each month at the Central Library in Santa Cruz.
Applications, found on the library website, must be submitted by Nov. 28.
