Valley Women United Missions’ Easter Project

Recent bunny sightings have been noted at Valley Churches United Missions as volunteers prepare goodies for the annual Easter Project. VCUM expects to serve more than 506 people, including low income families and fixed income seniors who struggle with the high cost of food and housing.
VCUM suggests people interested in donating can help feed those less fortunate in the community:
• Bags are available at your local grocery stores and churches with a list attached. Fill with what you can and put it in the barrel for pickup.
• Purchase a store voucher to provide perishables. Mail or drop off at addresses below.
• A $ 40 cash donation provides a family with a complete Easter dinner — mail check to P.O. Box 367, Ben Lomond, CA 95005.
• Drop off donations of food, cash, vouchers, toothbrushes & toothpaste at VCUM’s Ben Lomond office, 9400 Highway 9, Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or Ben Lomond Gas Station, 9500 Highway 9, any day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.; or the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, 216B Mt. Herman Rd., Monday through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Boulder Creek Brewery struggling to rebuild

Boulder Creek Brewery and Café announced through their Facebook on March 9 that the owners have not found a “viable financial plan” to rebuild the popular eatery, 13101 Highway 9 in Boulder Creek.
Fire gutted the building a year ago, in the early morning on March 29. Since then the owners have operated the Brewery Outpost nearby with a more modest food and beer selection.
According to the post, “The current engineering plans are cost prohibitive. The cost of seismic upgrades which include a vast amount of steel and foundation work have proven to be very expensive.”
The owners wrote that they don’t have a path to rebuilding and are now considering other options.

SVUSD looking for public feedback in superintendent search

The Scotts Valley Unified School District has posted an online survey to gather information from the public about what characteristics they should consider as they hire a new superintendent.
Superintendent Penny weaver announced her resignation on Feb. 19, after five years leading the district. She will finish the school year.
On March 8, the board voted to hire Leadership Associates of La Quinta to conduct a nationwide search for the next superintendent.
The public survey — which people can take by visiting the website https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PGS3NYW — asks people to rank the professional experience a candidate should have in order of importance. According to a flow chart for the job search posted by SVUSD, the public input phase is step two of 9.
