Local teacher selected for prestigious hands-on educational opportunity
San Lorenzo Valley High School announced that Social Studies teacher Cindy Martinez, was selected to be a member of the Supreme Court Summer Institute for educators. Cindy teaches senior level AP US government and economics, world history, and is the leader of the District’s Technology team.
Slingshot SV and ChangeBound.org have forged a partnership to create the first co-working Spaces for Young Entrepreneurs. The partnership aims to influence and motivate the youth allowing them access to the following Slingshot SV’s unique educational portal for businesses, critical resources for small businesses, vetted people resources for advice and mentorship, and a community of people to share ideas, talents, and best practices.

Free children’s day event at the Felton Farmers Market
The Felton Farmer’s Market continues its annual tradition in hosting Children’s Day – a festive event to celebrate the little ones in our lives.
On June 16, between the hours of 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., the event will spotlight Freesia Raine, a local children’s song writer known for her creativity and ability to connect with young people. The “Watch it Grow” program will be working with kids and adults alike to plant seedlings to take home and transfer into the garden. Local groups including Camp Joy will be heading up children’s activities and holding open enrollment for summer programs.
While kids make puppets, plant seedlings, and get their faces painted, parents can learn more about fun summer educational opportunities for their children in the Santa Cruz County region.
Commercial Burglaries in Scotts Valley
On June 8, 2015 two commercial burglaries were reported at the Scotts Valley Corners Shopping Center and Graham Plaza Shopping Center between the hours of 1:50 and 4:15 a.m.
The responding Officers collected evidence, and a description of the suspect and vehicle were developed. Officers located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a vehicle stop. After a search, Officers recovered evidence linking the driver to the burglaries in Scotts Valley and another Burglary that occurred in Watsonville.
Officers arrested the vehicle’s driver, 34-year-old William Cook of San Jose, for possession of stolen property and probation violation on June 9. The vehicle’s passenger, 37-year-old Enrique Osuna, also of San Jose, was concurrently arrested for possession of stolen property. Both suspects were booked into county jail.
