Scotts Valley Water District warns of odd odors during pipeline testing
The City of Scotts Valley is working with the Scotts Valley Water District in exploring the possibility of providing recycled water to the Pasatiempo Golf Course.
To do this, the city will need to store wastewater at the treatment facility on Lundy Lane for approximately 20 hours.
This process is necessary as the treatment facility’s outfall pipeline would need to be disinfected prior to the delivery of recycled water and the disinfection process takes about 20 hours.
A pilot test to see how the treatment facility will respond to this time of extended storage is scheduled for Monday, March 30.
As it may take up to four days for the treatment facility to return to normal operation, the city alerted residents that abnormal odors may be detected during this time.
City staff will closely monitor the entire process to ensure against plant upset and potential odor problems.
For information, contact the city’s Publics Works Department at 454-5854.

Historian to present virtual tour of San Lorenzo Valley’s railroad past
Railroad expert Bruce MacGregor will host a presentation about the history of railroads in the San Lorenzo Valley.
The program, set for Saturday, March 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., will take visitors on a virtual tour of the time when trains first roared into the area. The presentation, titled “Inroads: The Coming of Railroads to the San Lorenzo Valley,” will be held at Park Hall, 9400 Mill Street in Ben Lomond.
The San Lorenzo River basin lured developers with the promise of a simple, low-cost route to transport its wealth in timber products.
In photographs and narrative, MacGregor will tell the story of that development layer by layer, leading up to the coming of the railroad in the 1870s and Santa Cruz County’s emergence as one of the largest industrial producers in the state.
The event is sponsored by The Tyrolean Inn, Henflings, and The San Lorenzo Valley Museum. For more information, call 338-8382 or go to www.slvmuseum.com.
