Free community event: Minions invade Skypark
The Scotts Valley Advocates is holding their second free movie event at Skypark, Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
The family event begins with a demonstration of LEGO building by Play-Well TEKnologies. At 8 p.m., families will enjoy a showing of “Despicable Me” on the big screen.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on the grass. The Scotts Valley Advocates are providing free popcorn and selling juice.
Redwood Ramblers Toastmasters Open House
The Redwood Ramblers Toastmasters Club is holding an Open House on Wednesday, from noon to 1 p.m.
Featured speaker Tom Ginsburg of Santa Cruz will present, “Unleash the True You—With Toastmasters” to support the event theme, Brave New Frontiers.  
Club members will explain how Toastmasters can boost confidence and help someone become a better communicator and leader.
The open house is at Redwood Ramblers’ regular meeting location, Saint Philip’s Episcopal Church, 5271 Scotts Valley Dr. The club will provide refreshments.

Comedy production from SLVHS
San Lorenzo Valley High School students are presenting the farce “The Matchmaker” at the Performing Arts Center, 7105 Highway 9 in Felton, this weekend and May 21-23.
Thornton Wilder’s 1955 comedy follows the exploits of matchmaking busybody Dolly Gallagher Levi, brokering love for a wealthy businessman, Horace Vandergelder.
People can buy tickets — $10 general admission, $8 student or senior citizen and $7 with ASB — for the 7 p.m. show tonight and Saturday or May 21-23. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets available at the box office on the day of the performance. 
Supervisor holds “non-meeting” for SLV residents
Supervisor Bruce McPherson, 5th District, announced a new monthly gathering for residents he called “Valley Voices.”
McPherson wrote in a letter to residents that he wanted to create the regular gatherings as “non-meetings” during which residents can share concerns, catch up on county projects, and hear from an invited speaker.
The first Valley Voices event is at Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub, 13200 State Route 9 in Boulder Creek, on June 3 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. The invited speaker is Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart.
SVPD & 7-Eleven Celebrate National Police Week
In recognition of National Police Week, the Scotts Valley Police Department has teamed up with the local 7-Eleven Store to honor the courage of peace officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This Friday, May 15,is Peace Officers Memorial Day. From 3 to 5 p.m., officers will be at the 7-Eleven at 274 Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley to greet the public and offer tours of the SWAT truck. 7-Eleven will be giving away complimentary Slurpees to all participants.
