SLVHS names building for retired teacher

San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District honored retired science teacher Preston Q. Boomer for more than half a century of teaching at San Lorenzo Valley High School by naming the campus science building in his honor.
On Friday, the district gathered Boomer’s family, friends, colleagues, and students outside the San Lorenzo Valley High School Science building to rename it the Boomer Science Building.
Boomer retired from teaching in June 2013 after a 56-year career. The district also renumbered the rooms in the building B-1 to B-4. The building name and numbering will remain in place for the next 56 years in honor of Boomer.
UCSC Move-Out Program to reduce street litter
The Santa Cruz Public Works Department has teamed up with University of California Santa Cruz for the third annual UCSC Move-Out Program, to get rid of furniture and other items left behind by students leaving for the summer.
Students who live off campus can donate unwanted — but still useable — items to local charities, participate in the city-wide Garage Sale Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, or have their items picked up by city sanitation workers on June 27.
Students must register with the city for the Bulky Item Pickup on June 27, and can learn more about the USCS Move-Out Program, at www.cityofsantacruz.com/ucscmoveout.
