Supervisor candidate forum set for Friday
Seniors Council of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties will be hosting a forum for District 5 supervisor candidates on Friday, Feb. 16, from 1-2:30pm, at the Scotts Valley Senior Center, 370 Kings Village Road, in Scotts Valley.
The event will be an opportunity for the candidates—Theresa Ann Bond, Christopher Bradford, Tom Decker and Monica Martinez—to meet and speak with local seniors, individuals living with disability and their families and caregivers.
Hear the candidates’ positions on issues important to seniors, people with disabilities and other topics related to aging. Audience questions will be included.

Santa Cruz Burger Week plates up for the sixth sizzling year event
Santa Cruz Restaurant Week and Good Times have announced the sixth annual Santa Cruz Burger Week—seven days of burger love, as only Santa Cruz can do it.
The spinoff of Santa Cruz Restaurant Week—an annual fine dining event that has enjoyed growing success in its 13 years—includes more participating restaurants.
The inaugural Santa Cruz Burger Week in 2017 was a smashing success, with restaurants scrambling to keep up with demand. Participating restaurants requested that Santa Cruz Burger Week be moved to an off-season, so now it spans seven nights from Feb. 21- 27.
The Burger Week concept is simple: Each participating restaurant can offer one or more specially-priced burgers and will feature one at price points of $12, $15 or $18. It may be à la carte or include sides.
This event is an opportunity for local chefs to debut a new burger or introduce more customers to their favorite or most popular burgers. Burgers may be beef, chicken, lamb, fish, portobello, vegetarian, vegan—or whatever a chef might create. This year, all participating restaurants are also offering a takeout option.
Santa Cruz Burger Week shines a spotlight on the local food culture in Santa Cruz County, allowing restaurateurs and chefs to showcase their individuality and creative talents, and diners to try a new restaurant or new menu item for the first time.
A list of participating restaurants and their featured burgers are regularly updated on SantaCruzBurgerWeek.com through the Feb. 21 cutoff. Good Times’ Santa Cruz Burger Week issue will be published on Feb. 21.
LAFCO seeks applicants for vacant positions
Applications are being accepted for two upcoming vacancies with the Local Agency Formation Commission of Santa Cruz County (LAFCO).
The two openings are for the Regular and Alternate Public Member seats. Each position has a four-year term beginning in May 2024.
Any person wishing to apply for either of these positions should download an application from LAFCO’s website (santacruzlafco.org) or request a hard copy from the LAFCO Office. The deadline for submitting an application to LAFCO is Friday, Feb. 23, by 3pm.
Any person appointed to the position must be a resident and a registered voter of Santa Cruz County. In addition, the appointee cannot be an officer or employee of a public agency within the county, including cities, special districts or Santa Cruz County.
What is LAFCO? This state agency determines which local agency is the most logical provider of public services within each county in California. The Commission has regulatory power over the formation of new local agencies and the boundary changes of the existing four cities and 75 special districts in Santa Cruz County.
