Library launches ‘Color Our World’ summer reading program
Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) has kicked off its highly anticipated 2025 Summer Reading Program, inviting residents of all ages—adults, children and families—to participate in a season of reading, learning and artistic exploration.
With the theme “Color Our World,” this year’s program emphasizes the transformative power of art and reading, encouraging participants to embark on a journey of creativity and imagination. Community members can register at their local library, Bookmobile or online through the SCPL website.
“The Summer Reading Program is all about celebrating reading for pleasure and encouraging children and everyone to keep reading all summer long,” said Youth Programs and Services Manager Heather Norquist.
She highlighted the program’s lineup of activities, including performances by magicians, puppeteers and musicians, as well as the distribution of books as prizes to help children build their home libraries. There are also a selection of arts and crafts programs to go along with the “Color Our World” theme.
The program officially began on June 1 and runs through Wednesday, July 31, with participants earning prizes for reaching various reading milestones. The final day to log reading minutes and the last day to redeem prizes is Saturday, Aug. 9.
Throughout the summer, all 10 library branches and the Bookmobile will host free activities designed to inspire readers of all ages.
For more information about the program, residents are encouraged to call 831-427-7713 or visit the SCPL Summer Reading Program website santacruzpl.org/srp.
