Holiday Art & Craft Fair returns this Saturday
Spring Lakes Park’s third annual Holiday Art & Craft Fair is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10am-2pm, at its Clubhouse, 225 Mt. Hermon Road, in Scotts Valley.
Get a head start on holiday shopping with a selection of original creations by local artists, such as hand-knitted scarfs, earmuffs, cat toys, holiday ornaments, aprons, children’s clothing and toys, Christmas decorations, saori-style weaving, clothing, scarves, home decor, hand-crafted pottery for home and garden, whimsical watercolor art prints, cards, stickers, glass mosaics, greeting cards, acrylic paintings, jewelry, succulents and more.
Environmental Town Hall features assemblymember
The Valley Women’s Club Environmental Committee will host the 24th Annual Environmental Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 1-3pm at Felton Community Hall, 6191 Highway 9.
The event will feature Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, who will provide an update on current environmental legislation and issues affecting the San Lorenzo Valley and the greater Santa Cruz County area. Following her remarks, Pellerin will participate in a live Q&A, providing residents with an opportunity to share their concerns and ask questions directly.
Attendees can also connect with 21 local agencies and organizations, including Friends of Quail Hollow County Park, County Mosquito and Vector Control, the Santa Cruz Climate Action Network, the SLV Native Habitat Restoration Program, California Native Plants and the Sierra Club Santa Cruz Group. Informational displays will be open before and after the main presentation. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be provided.
“This annual gathering helps our community stay informed, connect with local leaders and take part in shaping environmental solutions close to home,” said Nancy Macy, chair of the Valley Women’s Club Environmental Committee.

San Lorenzo Valley Museum hosts Veterans Day Dinner
San Lorenzo Valley Museum is hosting its 13th annual Veterans Day Dinner at Scopazzi’s Restaurant and Lounge in Boulder Creek.
The special event will be held on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 5:30-9pm at Scopazzi’s, 13300 Big Basin Way. The program will begin at 6:15pm and dinner will include a three-course sit-down affair with the choice of prime rib, chicken, salmon or vegan options.
There will be a program recognizing veterans and active-duty military personnel, with former Supervisor Bruce McPherson as master of ceremonies. Beth Hollenbeck will again be the pianist as guests sing each of the branch’s songs, and Fifth District Supervisor Monica Martinez will be presenting a proclamation.
U.S. Air Force veteran Kay Tollini and U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran Jack Tracey will be the two guest speakers. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms and bring memorabilia to share.

Animal shelter offers low-cost spay/neuter services
Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) is partnering with Animal Balance to provide affordable spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines and microchips from Nov. 7-9.
Registration is now open for this three-day event aimed to help Santa Cruz County pet owners address pet overpopulation and keep their animals healthy. A team of fully licensed vets and technicians from Animal Balance will perform the surgeries, with support from dedicated local volunteers. The clinic will be held at 2260 Seventh Ave., just around the corner from the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.

Eligible pets must be healthy, between 8 weeks and 8 years old, and weigh between 2 and 80 pounds. Pets with very short noses (like pugs or bulldogs), seniors, and those with health issues are not eligible for this event.
