Help keep San Lorenzo Valley clean by joining cleanup

The River & Road Cleanup, set for Saturday, Sept. 21, is an annual effort to keep the environment clean in the San Lorenzo Valley. Since 1986, this day of action has helped remove tons of trash in the region that threatens wildlife and the watershed.

The cleanup starts at 9am and volunteers can show up to four meeting places: Felton—Covered Bridge County Park; Ben Lomond—near Ben Lomond County Park on Mill Street; Boulder Creek—behind The Mat – Boulder Creek Laundry; and Lompico—Lompico Park.

Volunteers who come should bring water, work gloves, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and a high-visibility shirt. Latex gloves and trash bags will be provided. All ages are welcome but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is hosted by the Valley Women’s Club in partnership with Save Our Shores.

For the first time this year, United Against Hate and Banned Books Week will be celebrated during the last week of the month of September.

In recognition of both celebrations, Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) will host events highlighting the ongoing issues of literary censorship and book bans and the ongoing rise of hate, bigotry and racism in communities.
