Animal services receives money for horse care
Santa Cruz County Animal Services received a $5,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of New York to help pay the cost of caring for eight horses that were abandoned when their owner was hospitalized. Animal services teamed with a neighbor to care for the horses June 8 through 25.
“Due to our active involvement and the increasing costs of care, I requested monetary assistance from the ASPCA,” said Todd Stosuy, supervising animal services field manager, in a prepared statement. “We are very pleased our request was granted, and the money has gone to help pay for the bills accrued by caring for these horses.”
Community garage sale on tap
Santa Cruz County’s annual community-wide garage sale weekend is scheduled for Oct. 2 and 3. The weekend is a grassroots public-awareness campaign to promote reuse, repair and resale opportunities in the county.
People who are interested in hosting garage sales that weekend can call the city of Scotts Valley or the county for a free garage sale kit which includes signs, labels and a brochure with garage sale hints.
Local newspapers, including the Press-Banner, will offer reduced rates on classified advertisements to promote garage sales of all kinds that weekend.
