A handful of local businesses are among the 63 in the county that earned kudos from the Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live Partnership for being against selling alcohol to minors.

The Coast Classic Wrestling Tournament at Aptos High School on Dec. 27 and 28 gave Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley high school wrestlers a benchmark for the season.

For those who were not aware that Monterey Bay Community Power was finally becoming operational in July and August for most PG&E residential customers, a new charge of about $30 for “Monterey Bay Community Power Electric Generation Charges” on the monthly PG&E bill was met with surprise, skepticism and some questions. These questions range from “What is Monterey Bay Community Power and why am I getting charged for it?” to “Why wasn’t I given a choice to participate with this new utility company before I started getting billed for it?”

The Ben Lomond Fire Protection District, on behalf of itself and the Boulder Creek, Felton and Zayante Fire Protection districts, has been awarded a $536,164 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security.

A Boulder Creek couple arrested on charges connected to the molestation of a child in their care pleaded guilty in court this week.
