Dramatic increasein needles found on Seabright Beach

It appears that El Nino storms may be responsible for bringing more needles to Seabright Beach. Over the past few weeks, Take Back Santa Cruz’s Needles Solutions Team has seen a dramatic increase in reports of needles found on SeabrightBeach, which is located in Santa Cruz between the Boardwalk and the Harbor near the mouth of the San LorenzoRiver.

California’s Board of Equalization vice Chair George Runner has sponsored legislation which has cleared the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation. SB526 gives the Franchise Tax Board authority to honor legal divorce agreements regarding tax payments when determining if one spouse can be relieved of joint tax liability.

Gang Task Force arrests five

The Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team Gang Taskforce Officers were conducting a patrol in the City of Watsonville at the end of January. The Gang Taskforce Officers observed a vehicle with a vehicle violation infraction. The Gang Taskforce Officers attempted to conduct a stop of the vehicle.

Massage parlor sting

On January 29, 2015, the Santa Cruz Police Department Neighborhood Enforcement Team conducted an undercover human trafficking and prostitution sting focusing on illegal acts of prostitution in local massage businesses. The operation was borne out of community complaints and suspicions about the activity occurring in the businesses.

New karaoke champion named

On February 9, the Ninth Annual Scotts Valley Idol contest that began on January 9, 2016 ended. Malone's Bar and Grille was packed with patrons who came from near and far to witness the karaoke competition.
