Mercedes Molloy, an up-and-coming 15-year-old artist and Scotts Valley resident, is giving back to her community through her artwork.

The going has been slow for the nascent Boys and Girls Club of the Valleys. Although the actual building has been completed and ready to go for nearly a year, the funding that would allow after-school programs for the youth of Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley to begin has yet to materialize.

For two-year-old David Devers and his family, life has turned upside down since the beginning of 2015. What began as trouble playing at the park in January was soon discovered to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
